The reality is a lot less dramatic - the comments were nothing we didn't already know, and the taper was proabably just a over-zealous activist out to save the world from that evil corporate right wing conspiracy etc. That said, I don't think it's a good thing to have politicians taped regularly. Conferences and functions like this are one of the few ways politically-interested people can get to talk to MP's face to face. It doesn't work well for anyone if MP's private conversations become as spun as their public comments.
