I don’t understand why The National isn’t one of the most successful bands in the world; a year later I’m still listening to Boxer every couple of weeks. This song is off their previous album, Alligator.
I’m sorted for Leonard Cohen tickets by the way.

Yeah, Stephen’s is also my main hurdle. I see what they’re doing; I just get what I might get from The National from folks like Jason Molina. And some David Eugene Edwards. And how about that new Jakob Dylan album?

Did you expect some sort of rush? You could probably have a whole aisle to yourself.

Lew – what both of those are missing (haven’t heard the new Jakob Dylan) is what is quite probably the best rhythm section working in (loosley defined) pop music today. Bryan Devendorf is just a phenomenal drummer; songs that seem simple on the surface, and might not even seem beat focussed, have these crossword puzzle (phrase stolen from some review I read cos I like it) drum patterns going on underneath.
(I also disagree about Berninger’s vocals, not to mention his lyrics, but that’s another issue)

Completely agree about The National’s rhythm section. It’s stellar. But it’s not quite enough.
Jakob Dylan doesn’t have that. But he does have Neko Case collaborating and singing backing vocals, and a quite unselfconscious Springsteen impression.
