O’Henry

Filed under: general idiocy — danylmc @ 11:12 am

paul_henry_dI’m a bit bewildered by the shocked outrage against Paul Henry and his ‘mustache’ comments. If you’ve ever watched Breakfast TV for more than a few seconds you know that the guy is a gaping, abhorrent asshole so it seems disingenious for people to go on his show and then be amazed when he acts like a childish buffoon – that’s essentially what the show is, and it seems reasonably popular and successful on that merit.

I guess we could wish we lived in a world where TV shows starring gaping assholes weren’t popular and successful but until that sainted day comes around aren’t we better off ignoring worthless little creatures like Henry instead of watching his show and getting excited about him?

  1. What is interesting is that he is being castigated for READINGOUT AN E-MAIL FROM A VIEWER!

Find this e-mailer and hang them from a lamp-post. Then the cause of free speech will be totally abandoned in New ZEaland.

Stupid woman should have shaved like I do and avoided the bloody issue in the first place!

  2. Excellent work, Dave! After all this, after all the discussion, you’ve managed to find a way to blame the victim. Well done!

Screw you and your “PC gone mad”, “Free speech under attack” bullshit. Of course he has a right to hold an opinion. Of course he has a right to tell anybody he wants that opinion, just as you have.

TVNZ also has the right to decide, due to viewer feedback, that they don’t want this prick hosting their beige, overmarketed, moderate TV show and kick his smug (gaping) asshole on to the street.

  3. Spot on Danyl.

I always find Henry’s hard-hitting interviews of the PM much more offensive that any reader comments he might read out. “So John, are you a great Prime Minister or the Greatest Prime Minister?” “What sort of tragedy would it be for New Zealand if you weren’t Prime Minister” (actually I’m pretty sure that’s a verbatim quote).

  4. I blame his thesaurus, from comments he makes he believes that “frank” and “crass” are synonymous and likewise “tact” and “PC gone mad”.

That a person could be frank with tact has not yet dawned.

But then he is obviously not alone.

  5. Chris
    What Victim?

I pointed out that Henry’s big blunder was to read out comments that viewers had sent the programme in the expectation they would be read out.

I then pointed out that if the woman had taken some pride in her appearance and removed what was clearly going to provoke responses – both negative and defensive – she would have served her cause better. How useful to her purported cause is it to have everyone talking about her grooming? I don’t believe this was anything other than a planned action on her part, and so there is no ‘victim’ to be found!
