Letterman

Filed under: general idiocy — danylmc @ 6:35 pm

John Key has somehow landed himself a spot on Letterman during his upcoming trip to the US (and Prime Minister, if you need any help writing jokes for the show just holla at me), which reminded me of my favourite Letterman guest appearance of all time: Crispin Glover.

  1. As someone who got to watch letterman in person, it is the most staged and scripted 1 hour of your life. Not to mention the rules you get nailed into you beforehand such as, if you don;t laugh you WILL be thrown out.

John key gosh, all I can think of is the PM of New Zealand on flight of the conchords, except this is for real….

Yeah, I too cringe when I hear JK speak overseas, but it’s not because he’s bad in-and-of himself. It’s because his accent is so damn KIWI.

  5. What is that in the box…

It’s like the box in Pulp Fiction.

  6. Key could take along a box of samples – NZ produce – and do a travelling salesman act.

Have I got something for you…

At least it’s his own accent, as opposed to Jim Bolger and his penchant for speaking like whichever world leader he was sitting next to.

Anyone else remember this great little opinion piece from last year? http://www.stuff.co.nz/opinion/752074

  10. I think they’ll need an interpreter.

If he takes the piss out of himself, it could be funny. Letterman is hilarious on good days, others not so much.

If those are the rules I wouldn’t make it to 3 minutes, let alone an hour.

  14. Read Crispin Glovers wiki, he was in character from the his movie, set the trend of ‘weird guesting’ Letterman and the team didn’t know, I guess its just become a more scripted show since the late 80’s

  15. i think this is a mistake, in my humble opinion, and likely to be agonising. this is because letterman usually gets on people who’ve done something interesting.

prime minister of a couple of pacific islands? not so much.

watch for the pivotal question: “how many sheep do you have?”

but good on him. if he handles it like it did kava, he’ll be sweet as.

  16. that’s a point, is this because NZ is a bit hip in the US at present?

semi relatedly, saw Sunshine Cleaners and it was quiet good. some people might find it a bit mawkish but I thought Jeffs handled the sentimentality well. liked Rain apart from the ending.

  17. I predict Key will be great. He has a sense of humour and is wicked smart. Just watch.
