Deathblow!

Filed under: general idiocy — danylmc @ 8:00 am

When someone tries to blow you up, not because of who you are but because of different reasons altogether:

The boss in trouble for “sexist” comments is now under fire for boasting he asked the Prime Minister about a sexual relationship with a woman unionist.

Council of Trade Unions president Helen Kelly confirmed she had been publicly confronted by Employers and Manufacturers Association head Alasdair Thompson.

At a dinner at McCormick & Schmick’s restaurant in Washington, Thompson approached Kelly, Street and the business leader.

Thompson is alleged to have made lewd comments at the social event about the relationship Kelly had with Prime Minister John Key, who has been married to wife Bronagh since both were teenagers.

Offending the entire nation is one thing and insulting Helen Kelly another, but blemishing the PM’s wholesome family-photos-on-the-cover-of-women’s-magazines based media brand – that’s a capital offence.

  1. thats nice DM but the article is about the AT and HK with the JK bit explanatory rather than the reason for any action against AT.

  2. Indeed Will. But, just hypothetically and all, what if there were political parties opposed to the govt, looking to seize on opportunities to undermine and publicly embarrass the govt and its leader?

  4. You mean another FAIL for the Labour spin machine??

    Keep up the good work.

  5. @Will

Is this what you call a ‘spin fail’ ?

Labour MP Maryan Street was also present and within earshot but has refused to comment.

Alasdair is having a catastrophic spin fail.

  6. Herald article:

Late last night, the Prime Minister’s office dismissed Thompson’s allegations as “totally ridiculous”.

Unfortunately, the Prime Minister then added: “I did not have sexual relations with that woman.”

Kevin Taylor has left the building.

  8. Kiwiblog thread is fun.

    All Helen Kelly’s fault, obvs.

Also, who knows? It could be true; someone leaked the Brash emails and Alasdair Thompson knows more than stupid blog commenters.

And too, who doesn’t say stuff like this when they’re wasted off their face at big DC shindigs? Cut the guy some slack already, it’s sunday ffs!

  9. Yes indeed gone by lunchtime.

I thought he was most unfairly dealt to by TV3 but this is a game changer. There’s no way such a fool can ever again negotiate seriously with the CTU. He’s out of a job.

  10. i’m in the shocking space of agreement with adolf.

this thompson idiot just bit the hand that feeds him. who in their right mind drops a statement like that, revenge or no, about the leader of your own party?

  13. I get the feeling Thompson is attempting to save both his arse and face at once. He can have one or the other, but not both.

Really, Danyl? Looks more like a case of professional suicide by making a Philip Treacy arse-hat of yourself all over two people your employer needs to have a constructive relationship with. (Libel laws really prevent me from speculating how “tired and emotional” Al was at the time.)

    Comment by Craig Ranapia — June 27, 2011 @ 9:53 am

  15. “a capital offence”?

    I dunno.

After all JK really is a dick.

I am certain Kelly has better judgment than Thompson.

  16. Labour stay on form (form for failure mind) & vainly try to link the Al Thompson media implosion to the PM. I think the red leadership team are “tired & emotional”.

You know, I still don’t think you’ve got your head around this story.

    Comment by Russell Brown — June 28, 2011 @ 9:48 am

  18. er Russell, what don’t I understand? You’re being a bit vague.

Point: AT has acted like a prize f.wit
Point: The HK incident re: AT happened to involve reference to JK
Point: AT is getting pilloried by the media quite rightly and will get turfed by the EMA
Point: Labour hacks try and tar JK with the mess

What part is unclear here Russell?

    Comment by will — June 28, 2011 @ 12:56 pm

  19. will:

The bit where you say “Point: Labour hacks try and tar JK with the mess” is the unclear one. Unless you’ve a super-sensitive nose for Labour hack tarring and can see it where others can’t? In which case, I guess we’ll have to take your word for it.

I strongly suspect Russell’s “point” is that there are a number within the business community, women and men alike, who would quite like to see Thompson gone, and the leak to the Herald on Sunday that danyl linked to came from that sphere. Labour isn’t in this game at all.
