Watch it alone. Gloriously alone

Via NotPC:

I’ve just been told that over the Xmas break Stratos will be screening the Best of Perigo!, 6 favourite episodes of the Perigo! show re-screened, starting with Lindsay’s interview with the dear, departed Roger Kerr this Thursday at 8.00pm on Stratos, Sky 89, and ending with his Ayn Rand Special—about which he said, “This is it for me … I couldn’t be prouder.”

These are the shows, in the order they’ll go out:

1 – Roger Kerr
2 – Muriel Newman
3 – Don Brash 2
4 – The Mad Butcher
5 – Deborah Coddington
6 – The Ayn Rand Special

  2. But will Don Brash 2 make any sense if you haven’t seen Don Brash 1?

  4. if you combine 3&4 you have a great premise for a b-grade movie sequel.

  5. Wonder if he’ll outrate bradbury’s Friday night self promotion?

  6. And 5 as well amc32.

My favorite ep was the first one where Perigo went on about pronunciation for what seemed like an eternity. I challenge anyone to watch that entire episode without feeling a little bit sick in their mouth. He’s been in NZ how many years and still talks like he’s got a plum in his bum? And wonders why mainstream media won’t pay hundreds of thousands of state funds for his services…

  7. rE #2 Oh, I dunno. Don Brash 2 could well be Episode IV A New Hope, as opposed to the dreadful Episode 1 (Mr B does have vague resemblance to Jar Jar Binks)

  8. #6 I preferred the out-takes, those bizarre act policy announcements that followed.

I liked the camp pre-raphaelite decor but Perigo! was spoiled by its bullshit guests. Watch it again? naaa

  9. I was watching on Telly just now about how J Edgar Hoover liked to dress in drag and watch teenage boys have sex. For some reason that reminded me of this post.

  10. Well Cactus..I guess Perigo…like many of us, would actually like to be able to hear what someone is saying and not have to decipher grunts and whining. Its not surprising so many NZ firms outsource their call centres to overseas operators….its the only way you can talk to someone with decent English…

  11. Jar Jar Binks? Isn’t he the new hope for the good people of Epsom?

    Comment by Aztec — December 15, 2011 @ 3:04 am

  12. I think there’s more of a concern about the quality of written English in this country. Isnt…that….right….James… …?

    Comment by Guy Smiley — December 15, 2011 @ 7:06 am

  13. Whatever…………………;-)

When I add dots after something its by my design….not anything to do with what you consider right.

    Comment by James — December 15, 2011 @ 7:27 am

  14. Yeah no, it’s (see what I did with that apostrophe) the appalling punctuation and poor grammar and syntax which are the issue. The overuse of ellipses is just your attempt at being special.

    Comment by Guy Smiley — December 15, 2011 @ 7:33 am

  15. Maybe***************************************************** ;-)

    You think#################################?

    Comment by James — December 15, 2011 @ 7:36 am

  16. Good old James, reliably adding an element of cultural cringe about our accent to his already heavy quiver of annoying traits. Such a multifaceted diamond.

    Comment by Sanctuary — December 15, 2011 @ 7:50 am

  17. its the only way you can talk to someone with decent english.

    Are you being intentionally funny?

    Comment by Gregor W — December 15, 2011 @ 8:31 am

  18. GW…..that was tongue in cheek yes….;-)

    Comment by James — December 15, 2011 @ 4:04 pm

  19. ah yes, Sanctuary and Guy stroke each other, again.

    Comment by will — December 15, 2011 @ 6:18 pm

  20. Fuck me … just like old times. James says something dumb, Guy and Sanctuary skewer him, then will chips in from the sidelines. Repeat ad infinitum.

    Comment by Grassed Up — December 15, 2011 @ 7:30 pm

  21. This thread is reading just like a Perigo! script. But more ironic.

    Comment by Alistair — December 15, 2011 @ 9:25 pm

  22. Watch it alone? I’m not in favour of watching horror alone, but each to their own. :)

    Comment by Dan Burt — December 15, 2011 @ 10:39 pm

  23. Sanctuary, not cultural cringe…..more frustrated annoyance. If charter schools can reverse the invasion of “Nu-zild” speak then roll them on big time.

    Comment by James — December 15, 2011 @ 10:42 pm

  24. I’ve never taken him seriously since his unintentionally funny rant about the Battle of Seattle in 1999.

    Comment by DeepRed — December 16, 2011 @ 12:50 am

  25. Language is about as free a market as one could hope to see. Why do you hate freedom James?

    Comment by Pascal's bookie — December 16, 2011 @ 8:09 am

  26. Being in favour of a free market doesn’t mean one has to tolerate crap …..indeed quite the reverse.

    Comment by James — December 16, 2011 @ 8:49 am

  27. So why are you in favour of the state subsidising your desire to hear a pommy elite speaking style?

    Comment by Pascal's bookie — December 16, 2011 @ 9:10 am

  28. Never said that at all…..I just lament the standard of spoken English in this country and how bad its become….

    Comment by James — December 16, 2011 @ 8:56 pm

  29. “it’s” James, “it’s”! Why do you regularly tolerate crap spelling?

    Comment by insider — December 16, 2011 @ 9:32 pm

  30. Why do YOU get all panty bunched over spelling yet are happy to have NZ descend into mumbling oblivion?

This thread has them shaking their heads with dismay over at SOLO regarding some peoples priority’s in life…

    Comment by James — December 16, 2011 @ 9:44 pm

  31. “This thread has them shaking their heads with dismay over at SOLO regarding some peoples (sic) priority’s (sic) in life.”

Yes, the person over at Solo Passion has got all excited over all the mumbling and such. James, if I didn’t know you were functionally illiterate and impossibly stupid, I would think you were taking the piss out of yourself.

    Comment by Guy Smiley — December 16, 2011 @ 9:57 pm

  32. If charter schools can reverse the invasion of “Nu-zild” speak then roll them on big time.

    Closely followed by

Why do YOU get all panty bunched over spelling…

One pictures the awesome achievements of the private sector in turning out Sth Auckland and east Chch pupils with excellent elocution and a complete inability to spell. Hooray! The state indoctrination centres will be shown up for the mediocre establishments they are!

    Comment by Psycho Milt — December 16, 2011 @ 10:23 pm

  33. Guy ….we both know that you have no case so are arguing trivia….Must be sad for you that that is all you can amount to….;-)

Any thought on raising education standards for NZ’s kids…? No..?

    Thought not.

    Comment by James — December 16, 2011 @ 10:34 pm

  34. Perhaps the folks over at SOLO could gain the contract for one of those awesome charter schools? Perhaps it could be named “SOLO Universal College of Knowledge and Study (SUCKS)”?

And seeing it’s the 21st century, it’s about time we had robotized classrooms: http://i.imgur.com/Uim5z.png — the AR1000 model is a good first step towards innovation and fresh thinking in NZ’s schools.

  35. You chaps spend an awful lot of time showcasing your awesome superiority over jimbo.

  36. James is going to open the Ayn Rand Skool Four Tot’s….

    Comment by Guy Smiley — December 17, 2011 @ 7:48 am

  37. I tuned in tonight, to a blank screen…
