Journullism of the day

Filed under: media — danylmc @ 11:05 am

The Christchurch Mayor is NOT going overseas:

Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker has turned down an all-expenses-paid speaking engagement in Switzerland because he is too busy.

Days before the February 22 earthquake, Parker was criticised for travelling more than 30 hours to give a 15-minute address to a United Nations-sanctioned quake summit in Nepal.

He confirmed yesterday that he had been invited to speak at a UN gathering in Geneva next month, but declined because “I’ve just got too much on my plate here”.

I hope the Press journalist who nailed this scoop didn’t have to cut too many corners or make too many powerful enemies to get the story out.

  1. That’s right, Parker is busy, very busy, trying to protect his job from being ECanned.

  2. Has anyone played the game “which New Zealand mayor is most likely to be a high priest Satanist”.

    Bob Parker always wins.

Funny enough he also wins the “which New Zealand mayor most likely partakes in genital hair waxing”.

  3. Funny the journalist didn’t bother finding out what he was actually doing…

We ordinary Chch citizens are not told about such things.

  4. ‘Journullism’ – that’s a great word for it

  5. with the abolition of ECan and the passing of the CERA act which enables an appointed official to boss the Christchurch City Council around, the precedent has clearly been set that Cantabrians are not necessarily considered to have the same democratic rights as mainstream New Zealanders. I’m waiting to see whether they will be allowed to vote this year…

  6. “More than 2000 leaders, policymakers and representatives from — are expected to attend the Swiss conference.”

I’m desperate to know where they are from. Why are they keeping this from us? I smell a conspiracy.

  7. “I’m waiting to see whether they will be allowed to vote this year…”

Only if the Crusaders win the Super 15 and Richie captains the All Blacks to victory in the World Cup. Otherwise, no way.

  8. This looks bad for Phil Goff

  9. Djerzinski you are wrong. I have it on good authority Parker gave up waxing years ago when he had laser hair removal treatment and is known in some circles as Bob the Brazilian.

  10. Bob Parker is an ill-chosen show pony, a smirking fool, a pandering moron. He has done nothing for his electorate bar parading around like some sort of demented tooth fairy, trying to get people to recognise his efforts for the earthquakes, when these efforts have been non-existant except for a lot of opportune media appearances.
