The fix is in

I’ve closed off comments on the Shelley writes the classics thread, because Keri Hulme has agreed to judge the entries and declare a winner. Winning criteria, date and time of the announcement and prize for best entry will all be subject to the merciless whims of Keri Hulme.

  1. You are insane.

  2. Funny, I don’t think of Keri as being connected to the interwebs. I think of her alone in a small cottage somewhere remote, beside a river, gathering her own food and writing by hand….

  3. That’s what makes this whole thing awesome!

  4. I truly value the contribution which danyl makes to teh interwebs.

  5. Wouldn’t Keri Woodham be more appropriate?

  6. In my opinion Keri Woodham would be more suitable judging a ‘Keri Hulme writes a lifestyle column’ competition.

  7. I’m sure she’ll get right on to it, as soon as she has put the finishing touches on her new novel. Any day now…

  8. Damn- no one did End of the Golden Weather….this game needs some extra time! So many possibilities there..

Thanks to all the writers so much true brilliance!

  9. Keri Hume is all over the web. In fact, I’d say anyone who says she doesn’t write anymore should look no further than the various blog comments pages she contributes to…

  10. Not to mention missing the chance to redo Hulme herself with Shelley’s special additions:

He walks down the street, which is actually Campo dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo (that’s in Venice, in Italy, and is a good place to buy hats and where I went last Wednesday on my Spring-to-Summer break from all this writing tosh). The handcarved paving stones (just like the ones at my cottage, more a lodge, really, in Omaha) reel by him.
It is all silence, but that’s OK because he’s got Neil Finn and a podcast about conspiracy theories on his iPhone – whew!
The silence is music (thanks to Neil Finn and iTunes, plus my darling hubby for explaining to me how to press the buttons).
The people passing smile, showing teeth that really could be a lot better with some laser treatment, or maybe they just shouldn’t smile anyway, since I heard smiling can give you lines if you can’t get enough of that La Prairie stuff duty free – fortunately, I stocked up on my way back from buying hats, and some more paving stones, in Campo dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo, though the airline people thought they’d make trouble about the excess weight until I explained that I was a journalist and was surely going to win an award any day now – and shake their heads: maybe they’ve got headlice, like the children at less expensive schools than I send our children to.

But cheers for the thought in the first place.

  11. Back in my day we organised our own fun. We certainly didn’t purchase Drunken Tower for $16.99 from The Warehouse. According to the NZ Herald the game “includes shot glasses and instructions for players to drink, such as ‘everyone drink’ and ‘drink two with the player to your left’.”

When do we find out who the comp winner is?
