  1. In next month’s Incite: Cameron rates NZ’s political bloggers, especially the Dimpost.

  2. From what you write Danyl I suspect that Incite is an attempt at satire. They can’t be serious Mr Umpire!
    Jealous Danyl?

  3. In the spirit of the season, can I propose that we have a Dimpost readers whip round to raise enough money to buy Danyl a year-long subscription? Because he really is worth it.

  4. Danyl, to counter the likely oncoming allegations of bias I think you need to disclose something: Did you pay full price for your copy, or did they send you a free review copy as part of a cunning strategy to generate good publicity?

or did you find it discarded and defecated upon in a toilet bowl?

  5. “…or did you find it discarded and defecated upon in a toilet bowl..?”

    DIRTY POLITICS!!!!

Let’s just see first whether there will be a second edition after this totally unexpectedly devastating and shocking review.

  7. Its like these people are credibility masochists.

  8. I can’t believe I’m saying this but – there is a kernel of truth I’m detecting amidst the satire. I do actually believe National use “will this help us win?” as their principle-free guiding axiom in a way that Labour do not. And this ruthless focus on winning at any cost works. They’ve been in power 2/3rds of the time since 1949. If only in that one respect, despite the laughs, the newsletter is actually quite telling, and so maybe we should do a whip around not for Danyl, but a subscription for the Labour caucus. Except we don’t want them to win without principles.

  9. “…the newsletter is actually quite telling,..”

In the same way, perhaps, Pravda once was back in the days of the Soviet Union. For example, Danyl says we would discover “… Tracy Watkins and Stacy Kirk at Fairfax and Claire Trevett at the Herald… …being openly praised by Cameron Slater …”

Which perhaps tells me a lot about what I should think of the quality of their journalism.

  10. Via Russell Brown:

“Sure, you’ve got all my money anyway. You’ve already wrecked the blog, pushed away all the commenters and reduced the traffic to a shadow of what it was. The experiment is coming to an end.”

Things are not going well for Mr Slater. This might be his attempt to raise an income.

Someone should set up a Give-a-little campaign.

  11. “This might be his attempt to raise an income.”

Yes, probably that between him and the others behind it. It’ll be hard to stop people simply forwarding it around, but that’ll mostly involve people who wouldn’t have paid for it anyway. At $35/issue, it’s seems to really be being targeted at wealthy people, media orgs, businesses, politicians and other organisations who might end up subscribing just because it’s there… and those are really the types of targets that the DP crowd want to most directly influence anyway. With low production overheads the revenue becomes $$$instant income$$$, basically for doing the same stuff that Cam and DPF and Lusk do already.

  15. You went there, Danyl? Thanks for taking one for the team. I couldn’t read that rubbish without being sad the world has f-wits like Slater and Lusk in it under the Sun we all share.

  17. I enjoyed your review Danyl. Recently I stopped going to Kiwiblog because I was just so totally blown away by the cynical agenda-setting and arse-kissing of the government by its esteemed author, which has become expected really, and y’know provided nice opportunities to challenge and confront. But I’l challenge and confront only when I believe in the integrity of the source. The last gut-wrenching insult to my intelligence was that David Farrar posted a ‘guest-post’ which was really a poorly composed anti-muslim ‘hate-rant’ by a failed ex-politician.

So I suppose the real reason for my deciding not to subscribe or engage was the realisation that these people, peddling their bile and hatred in the name of ‘freedom of speech’ actually think they are making an iota of difference to public opinion. They are a small coterie of puffed up browbeaters, that have confused having inflated egos having common sense or decency. In a small pond like New Zealand, they in fact they have become little more than playground bullies, roaming various media with impunity, shouting down and cowing individuals who to them, represent views that they deem too progressive or challenging to merit a ‘place’ in New Zealand society..

So I suppose it was only a matter of time that a circle-jerk of tired, embittered self-entitled brats should get together in the belief that peole would actually pay to read their inane, pointless expositions about the bleeding obvious. In my opinion, They are puffed up, spoiled self-entitled men (and women)-children who believe their arrogance makes them sound grown up and clever.

So thank you for your review, it needed to be written, my only criticism might be that you were too gentle on them.
